ABSTRACT

Learning strategies can be, and should be taught to language learners to facilitate their learning. The study of learning strategy is not new in China, but the training of it is scant. To help teachers sort out issues before implementing effective strategy instruction, several questions are asked and discussed in this paper: When should strategy training be carried out? Should instruction be separate or integrated, direct or embedded? How to choose appropriate learning strategies for the training program? What frameworks can be followed for strategy instruction?
