By reviewing the relevant literature of traditional Chinese medicine treatment of depression in recent years, we first analyzed the cognitive evolution of depression from the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine. Secondly, we systematically elaborated on depression from the perspectives of etiology, pathogenesis and internal organs. Finally, we summarized various aspects of TCM treatment methods to understand the current status and specific methods of TCM treatment of depression.
