A Study on the Current Status and Influencing Factors of Smartphone Dependence and Learning Efficiency among Undergraduate Nursing Students

ABSTRACT

Smartphones and the internet have reshaped the learning modes of undergraduate nursing students, and smartphone dependence has become a core factor restricting their learning efficiency. This study aimed to investigate the current status of nursing undergraduates’ smartphone dependence and learning efficiency, as well as the internal influencing mechanism between the two variables. A cross-sectional questionnaire survey was carried out. Research data were collected online via the Wenjuanxing platform, and three validated scales were adopted to measure smartphone dependence, learning efficiency and relevant influencing factors. This study further analyzed the overall status of smartphone dependence and learning efficiency, and explored how smartphone dependence affects learning concentration through academic self-efficacy, time management ability and academic procrastination. The results showed that among 251 surveyed nursing undergraduates, daily smartphone usage duration was generally excessive, and participants presented moderate smartphone dependence, with loss of control as the most prominent dimension. Their overall learning efficiency remained at a medium level, mainly marked by insufficient learning concentration. Correlation and regression tests indicated that smartphone dependence was significantly negatively correlated with learning efficiency. Academic self-efficacy, time management ability and academic procrastination jointly mediated the predictive effect of smartphone dependence on learning efficiency. This study provides empirical evidence for revealing the internal correlation between smartphone dependence and learning efficiency among undergraduate nursing students.
