ABSTRACT

Address terms evolve continuously according to actual usage needs, and the generalization of address terms refers to the relaxation or removal of the restriction on the referents of a particular address term. This paper focuses on the phenomenon of college students using "teacher" to address non-teacher groups. Firstly, it analyzes the semantic evolution process of the Chinese address term "teacher" and points out that the occupational identity of "teacher" can be blurred under certain conditions, allowing "X+teacher" to be used to address non-teacher groups. Secondly, it explores the significant factors influencing the emergence of the generalized meaning of the Chinese address term "X+teacher" based on survey results. Finally, combining relevant linguistic theories, it elucidates the reasons for the emergence of the generalized meaning of the Chinese address term "X+teacher" from both external and internal linguistic perspectives.
