ABSTRACT

Ever since China's reform and opening up, there has been a surge of interest in Western translation theories, with Nida's theories gaining the most recognition. As a pioneer in contemporary translation theory, Eugene A. Nida has made significant contributions to the field. This paper is divided into four parts: the first part provides an introduction to Nida and his translation theories; the second part delves into the development of Nida's theories in three stages and analyzes his ideas within each stage; the third part offers a comprehensive estimation of Nida and his theories, including his main contributions and the potential weaknesses of his theories; and the final part summarizes the paper, highlights the importance of studying Nida's theories, and presents the author's conclusion. Through a thorough analysis of his theories, it is evident that Nida's impact on the field of translation is profound, and his ideas continue to shape contemporary translation studies.
