ABSTRACT

Dick Hebdige, a prominent British literary theorist, in his seminal work Subculture: the Meaning of Style provides a profound exploration of the historical backdrop of subcultural dynamics through an extensive array of case studies. He systematically examines the genesis, functions, and significance of subcultural styles. Through an in-depth examination of Hebdige's text, this paper delves into his theory of subculture, reevaluates the processes behind subculture's emergence and incorporation, delves into the inevitability and enduring nature of subcultural existence, and unravels its latent value and deconstructive potential. Additionally, it convincingly refutes the notion that "subculture is dead" highlighting how subcultures incessantly evolve and flourish.
