Researchers have long disagreed on whether mercury is pathogenic for autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis, and it has also been used to treat autoimmune diseases. Exploring whether mercury is a risk factor for autoimmune diseases is important for disease treatment. In this paper, we searched Medline, Embase, and Cochrane Library databases, and collected the published literature on risk factors of autoimmune diseases from these databases to 2023-2, and performed Meta-analysis using RevMan 5.4 and Stata/SE 17.0 software. Meta-analysis results showed that exposure to mercury may be a risk factor for autoimmune diseases (OR=1.49, 95% CI: 0.30-7.29), but the risk factor for mercury correlated with the proportion of women included in the literature.
