Studying mitochondrial dysfunction can understand the principle of mitochondrial dysfunction, so as to better treat diseases caused by mitochondrial dysfunction. A growing body of research suggests that diseases produced by mitochondrial dysfunction can be treated with medications. However, to date, there has been no bibliometric study in this area. Our study aimed to visualize the publications to determine the hotspots and frontiers in research on mitochondrial dysfunction and provide direction for further research. The search strategy set in the database with "Mitochondrial dysfunction*", and 8130 articles were obtained after being automatically filtered by Citespace 4604 articles. We used CiteSpace6.1, R1, VOSviewer 1.6.18 and Excel 2019 software tools to conduct this bibliometric study. The study of mitochondrial dysfunction has now tended to be perfect. But in the future, the links between countries, institutions, and in particular, authors should be strengthened. At present, the research on mitochondrial ROS content imbalance and mitochondrial oxidative stress has gradually decreased, and the research on mitochondrial autophagy and mitochondrial kinetic disorders has increased and has become an emerging hot spot.
