ABSTRACT
As a leading courtier and distinguished intellectual at the court of Charlemagne, Alcuin wrote works that were widely circulated and influential throughout the Carolingian World. His letters to the many nobles of the Carolingian regime can thus serve as a lens through which to understand the ideology of the eighth-century Frankish nobility.
