ABSTRACT
Pedophilic disorder has become a topic of growing awareness and interest for the medical professional, as the sexual offending against children has gradually become a social issue and health concern. Pedophilic disorder is defined as having recurrent sexual preference for prepubescent children that is characterized by having persistent thoughts and fantasies as well as intense sexual impulse and arousal. What factors primarily cause the pedophilic disorder remain unknown so far. The main purpose of this review is to provide an overview of the techniques and methods that have or have not yet been applied to assess the pedophilic disorder, as well as the promising treatments used in conjunction with the psychotherapies in terms of neurobiology and cellular biology.
