ABSTRACT

Hyperthyroidism is a common endocrine disorder, a state of hypermetabolism due to overproduction of thyroid hormone (Thyroid Hormone). Traditional treatments include antithyroid drugs, radioactive iodine therapy, and surgical resection; however, these methods may be accompanied by a number of side effects and limitations. In recent years, herbal therapy has received much attention as an alternative approach, and its potential efficacy and relatively few adverse effects have attracted the interest of researchers. In this review, we will analyze the progress of Chinese medicine treatment for hyperthyroidism and discuss its mechanism, efficacy, and future trends.
